Rest In Peace, Jasper
Jasper died Feb. 1st, 2012. He was only 9 years old. I've never had a dog die that young before. He was literally fine one minute, and not the next. Such a stoic dog. In retrospect, I know he wasn't feeling well, but he never let on. He just kept going. Brian and I found him on the side of Hwy 170 in Jasper County, SC on the way back from Hilton Head on Valentine's Day 2003. He was approx. 6 weeks old. He was timid. Obviously not treated well. I used the last little piece of Target soft pretzel to lure him to me. The plan was to find him a home since we already had several dogs. We then found out he had mange and Parvo. After LOTS of treatment, and not knowing if he would live or not, he had our hearts. He was a talented hunter of squirrels and anything else that dared come in our yard. He was gentle with Henry. He didn't like being inside. He preferred to run the yard always. He never missed a meal in his life. I came home from work one afternoon, and he didn't want to eat. He had a fever. Turns out he had Myelodysplastic Syndrome where the body attacks its own good blood cells. Even with specialty treatment in Charleston, it was too late. We miss him terribly. Henry talks about him all the time. He had a rough start in life, but found a happy home with us. We miss you, Jazzie.
